The gap between executive enthusiasm for AI efficiency and middle management’s ability to interpret and challenge AI recommendations is substantial. Many managers lack the technical literacy to question algorithmic outputs, creating a scenario where they either blindly follow AI suggestions or completely ignore them—neither outcome serves the organization well. Furthermore, employee trust in promotion systems could be severely damaged if workers perceive decisions as being made by unaccountable algorithms rather than managers who understand their contributions.
