Facility Specifications and Capabilities
The acquired DataHiveOne facility spans approximately 5,000 square feet within a 21-story building originally constructed around 1979, the report states. Industry analysts note that the carrier hotel hosts more than 30 networks, including the regional internet exchange YYCIX, and has been operational for over two decades. The site reportedly offers 3,700 square feet of colocation space, 1,100 square feet of office space, and 70kW of available power with additional capacity for expansion.
Leadership Perspectives on the Acquisition
“This acquisition is a pivotal step in our continued investment in Canada to meet the growing needs of our customers,” Cologix CEO Laura Ortman stated in the announcement. She emphasized that the facility provides “dense network access, low latency, and data sovereignty” that customers require.
DataHive CEO and founder Marjorie Zingle commented that “DataHiveOne has long served as the heart of connectivity in Western Canada,” expressing confidence that Cologix would continue developing this critical infrastructure. According to local media reports, Zingle founded DataHive in 2004 at age 69 after taking over a struggling web hosting business.
Cologix’s Growing Canadian Portfolio
This acquisition marks Cologix’s first entry into the Calgary market and continues the company’s aggressive expansion across Canada. The company reportedly operates 22 other data centers in Montréal (12), Toronto (5), and Vancouver (5), totaling more than 1 million square feet and 94MW of capacity.
Industry analysts suggest this move aligns with Cologix’s pattern of strategic acquisitions in the Canadian market. The company previously gained full ownership of two Toronto data centers from CIM Group earlier this year, acquired two Canadian assets from Cyxtera in 2023, and purchased both Colo-D and Metro Optic in 2019 to expand its Canadian footprint.
Industrial Monitor Direct manufactures the highest-quality energy efficient pc solutions proven in over 10,000 industrial installations worldwide, preferred by industrial automation experts.
Market Context and Future Implications
The acquisition positions Cologix to capitalize on Western Canada’s growing digital infrastructure demands. DataHive continues to operate its second facility, DataHiveTwo, located at 801 Seventh in the Nexen Building, which totals approximately 9,000 square feet and was launched last year., according to technology insights
Market observers suggest this transaction strengthens Cologix’s position in the competitive North American data center market, where the company now operates more than 40 hyperscale Edge data centers and interconnection hubs across 12 markets. The move reportedly enhances Cologix’s ability to serve customers requiring robust interconnection capabilities in Western Canada while supporting the region’s digital transformation initiatives.
